First Thing’s First…

July 27, 2017

Before I get into my fun fitness posts, I would like to introduce myself! My name is Scot, and I am a personal trainer from Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada. I decided to start this page as a fun way to get some useful information out about health and fitness, and hopefully inspire some people to start or progress on their own fitness journey.

First I will share a little of my background. I have always been quite active; as a kid, I spent the majority of my time training and competing in speed skating, with my main focus being the sprint distances (500m and 1000m). Without realizing it, speed skating taught me so much about how to train, and how to manipulate training variables to focus on different results.

When I was 18, I switched my focus from speed skating to school, and decided to halt my training in place of completing my undergrad. However, I did not want to totally leave speed skating behind, so I took up coaching at my hometown club. It’s funny that I left speed skating for school and took up coaching as a side job, but coaching became my main focus with school just being something that filled my days (mostly because I loved coaching and training athletes, but partly because I absolutely hated my undergrad program… cellular physiology, what was I thinking?!).

For the years I was coaching, I was also trying to figure out what to do with my life, career-wise. I dipped my toes in a variety of fields, from retail to marketing to real estate, but nothing really suited me. The only two things I enjoyed doing were coaching and exercising. I spent forever trying to think of my interests to help narrow my career search, but could not come up with anything that really followed my passions. Finally, after years of being blind, I realized the answer was literally right in front of me – why don’t I put my two passions of coaching and fitness together? And since then, I have never looked back.

I completed into the Personal Fitness Trainer program at NAIT, got my CSEP-CPT and NASM-CES certificates, and am now living the dream, doing what I love. I’m always reminded of the quote “If you find something you love to do for work, you’ll never work a day in your life”, and it rings more and more true every single day.

I have started this blog as a way to hopefully help others find their passion and motivation to start or maintain a healthier lifestyle. I would like to use my background knowledge in health, fitness, and performance training to help others reach their fitness goals.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I welcome you to check in regularly for future fun posts!
